I know what you were referring to, I read it. If you knew it so well, then you should know what you said was wrong. Slide 11 doesn't give direct evidence of normal mapping because it's generated using direct geometric data in reference to the viewspace.
I don't doubt there is normal mapping in the game. Your source just isn't the support for your claim.
edit: at below. I didn't really enjoy it much either. That doesn't mean all the things you said were true. Some of ...
Not to say I agree with him, but there is a lot of misinformation in these comments too.
@chris: I can tell from your complaints you obviously haven't played gears 2. Some of the environments are huge, and you are more than capable of interacting with enemies and the environment across the scenes (check out the first underground scenes with multi-tiered levels)
@ghoul: what they talk about on page 11 isn't normal mapping. That's the mapping for the view space normals...
if that isn't what you're inferring your comment agrees with him or says nothing of any consequence at all.
this won't start anything bad...
the two biggest problems facing the PS3 are high production cost and high consumer cost. Sony made a bad gamble with that. One of the most important things M$ did was design a console that would be very easy to reduce production cost of. Sony's high production costs are going to hurt them dearly. Less money to spend on development, support, advertising (killzone 2 has horrible marketing compared to halo or gears... if it sells poorly, that will be...
and the number of people who read more than the headline before posting a comment is now at 3...
are you saying race pro wasn't a decent simulation racer?
NFS shift is a sim dude. They redid the whole NFS philosophy with this game. They're going for individual tracks with simulation, not arcade, gameplay at the forefront.
parts of IE are actually used in a lot of places in the windows system.

"Users should keep in mind that the Internet Explorer rendering engine is being used for various integral parts of the operating system and that it most likely would require a rewrite to untie it completely."
yea... The game quality is said to be practically equal on both consoles. The DVD restriction has more to do with M$ charging royalties for the discs that just costs too much. I think iD kind of blew it out of proportion to try to get M$ to reduce the royalties, but iD wasn't very upset about the storage size itself.
'I think the point of this article is that crap games are crap regardless of platform.
they are all going to be the same game. If they decide to limit the number of DVDs, the PS3 is still getting the same version as the PC and 360.
if it were completely uninstalled a lot of the features in windows simply wouldn't function.
Are they really estimating the wii to sell almost a million in february? Why? There weren't really any major releases. Ahm confused.
Gears 2 was announced and released in the same year. I think Left 4 dead was still mostly under wraps other than the announcement that it was a "source based zombie shooter".
Also, the 360 I think has already had more exclusives this year than the PS3 (not counting XBLA/PSN games, because I don't want to count that many games).
PS3:
Killzone 2
MLB the show
360:
Halo Wars
Stoked
Star Ocean
Ninja Blade (edit: I...
have you read any of hydrol1x's posts there? They are often insanely sony biased. I'm guessing Mattg is on to provide a little more balance to the site.
just wow. I don't understand how after 2007 and 2008 with the 360 being in the same position before any of the major game conferences, you can really not expect them to have a decent lineup come fall.
they'll both have good lineups, and the 3rd party multi platform lineup will be better than either exclusive lineup.
There is a gross misunderstanding of the financial crisis and the global economy in this comment.
America's services are mostly management and financial. Unless india and china suddenly became management capitals of the world, I have to disagree.
Usually cutscenes now are done in engine, but they use upgraded models because they have more processing power to put towards the graphics without AI and physics running in the background.

It shows a lot of things, but it's slow and quiet. It does very little to hold your attention.
I understand them not wanting to have a stereotypical ad, but it would have sold better without the ad it has.
